Late 19th-century celluloid-covered music box featuring a romantic pastoral scene on the lid, ornate gilt hardware, and rich velvet sides. The music box is still in working order, and tucked inside are four original vintage cabinet photographs.
This piece is an early example of mass-market celluloid novelties produced between 1890–1905. They were often given as gifts and used to store letters, photographs, and personal mementos. The elaborate gilt metal mounts and embossed book-spine edging are classic features of the era.
- Interior photos are original to the piece; some pages need repair
- Lock plate present (key not included)
- Structurally intact with a working wind-up mechanism
- Condition: Significant vintage wear consistent with age; scuffing to velvet, toning, edge wear to celluloid, and oxidation to hardware
- Measures: 11.5" L x 9" W x 4" H
