Late 19th-century Victorian-era rosewood traveling dressing box, featuring a richly toned exterior and a striking red velvet-lined interior. Designed for personal grooming and travel, this elegant box retains its original, fitted interior layout, complete with glass jars, silver-tone lids, and period accessories, all intact.
The interior includes multiple original glass jars with faceted stoppers. All jars are intact. One stopper shows a small interior chip consistent with age and use, but is not visible when seated. The silver-tone lids display natural patina and surface wear appropriate to age and have not been over-polished. An original period metal bodkin/button hook is present, a correct and desirable accessory commonly found in higher-quality dressing cases.
The interior compartment tray remains present and has been carefully stabilized due to age-related fragility and prior historic repairs. To preserve its integrity, the tray is best left in place rather than repeatedly removed. The fold-down interior panel (traditionally used to support a mirror) remains intact and functions as intended.
The rosewood exterior shows honest antique wear throughout, including surface scuffs, a scraped corner, and a missing strip of wood along the lower edge, all consistent with over a century of use. The exterior lock is non-functional, which is typical for travel boxes of this period. The underside retains remnants of its original protective fabric lining.
An ornate engraved monogram remains on one interior element, reflecting original personal ownership and period craftsmanship.
