Antique Concrete Coffin Burial Vault Salesman Sample

This substantial concrete coffin-form display is believed to have served as a burial vault or funerary salesman sample, created to demonstrate the construction of concrete burial vaults to funeral homes and cemetery professionals during the first half of the twentieth century.

Unlike lightweight decorative reproductions, this example is cast from solid concrete and is exceptionally heavy for its size. The removable lid fits precisely into the base, revealing the hollow interior exactly as one would expect from a demonstration model. 

While acquired as a French salesman sample, the piece bears no maker's marks or identifying labels. Its exact origin cannot be confirmed, though its construction, materials, and form are consistent with vintage funerary demonstration models dating to the early twentieth century.

Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear throughout.
