Antique Art Nouveau Jewelry Casket Marked “U.S.A."

An early 20th-century jewelry casket, steeped in the romantic Art Nouveau style. This ornate treasure box features swirling floral reliefs, elegant cabriole legs, and a rich, time-softened gilt finish. The interior is lined in deep green velvet — a lush contrast to its golden exterior — creating a piece that feels both luxurious and faintly mysterious.

The base bears a “U.S.A.” mark within a quilted pattern, used by American foundries between 1910 and 1925, when molds from earlier makers like Brainard & Wilson and Jennings Brothers were shared or reissued. Earlier versions of this same design carried round maker’s marks, while later runs like this one featured only the country-of-origin stamp.

This casket also has a lighter feel than earlier B&W pieces, as it was cast in a thinner spelter (zinc-based alloy), a common shift in later production runs, while still preserving the same elaborate design and craftsmanship.
