Antique Victorian Pairpoint Silverplate Fan Casket Quadruple Plate Box with Original Liner

Extraordinary antique silverplate fan-form casket by Pairpoint Manufacturing Company of New Bedford, Massachusetts.

Marked “Pairpoint Mfg Co Quadruple Plate New Bedford, Mass” this sculptural piece dates to circa 1890–1910 and embodies the romantic excess of the late Victorian aesthetic movement.

The form is a dramatic open fan, with intricate repoussé detailing throughout. The handle features winding serpentine elements that rise and terminate in stylized fan motifs.

The hinged lid opens smoothly to reveal the original gold satin liner, still beautifully preserved. Some delicate side chains (intended to support the lid when open) are present but have separated; they could be restored if desired. The lid functions properly without them.
